Lady in bronze

A very very brief overview of mould making/casting/finishing process.
1. Shimming the figure, dividing the sculpture into sections to mould.
2. Layers of plaster, reinforced with steel poles and scrim for the mould.
3. Opening the mould by soaking seams in water. Cleaned mould with water.
4. Casting in cement fondue and sand, reinforced with fibre glass and metal rods.
5. The figure out of the mould, all cracked up. Filled imperfections and seams with car body filler p38, I think, and lots of sanding.
6. Bronze effect painted on with black acrylic, bronze powders mixed with shellac and meths, followed by Bison wax in Dark Oak mixed with white spirit.

My sculpting skills have a long way to go but this has been an amazing project for learning about the human form, the anatomy and the moulding process.

Bring on next project.
